"IF YOU DIED NOW, ARE YOU SURE YOU WOULD GO TO HEAVEN?" If your "faith" is pleasing, and acceptable to God, God's Word says you will have a place in heaven. The PROBLEM is that as relatively few people really STUDY the Bible, they just assume God will accept their faith on the final Judgment Day. There are over four-hundred different "faiths" in the Christian world, and they all differ from that taught in God's Word (the New Testament). While most faiths teach that Jesus is God's Son, and that in His death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus paid the price to cover the sins of the world; THEY AGREE to DISAGREE with God's Word and each other in places where God's Word provides specific instruction that is contrary to their teachings. HAVE YOU COMPARED your "faith" to THAT FAITH REVEALED in the BIBLE'S NEW TESTAMENT? Did you accept your "faith" on the BASIS of what someone else "told you", instead of studying WHAT GOD'S WORD teaches as requirements in the New Testament? Do you know THAT GOD HAS COMMANDED His people not to "ADD TO", or "TAKE AWAY FROM" His Word? Deut. 4:2:
Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep
the commands of the LORD your God that I give you. The Word "Covenant", as translated throughout the Old Testament, means an agreement "between un-equals. The "superior"(God) defines the terms of the "covenant", and the inferior (man) CAN ONLY ACCEPT or REJECT it; neither can ALTER it. Jesus teaches the same concept when He talks about "love", "obeying (and disobeying)" His commandments [John 12:44-50; 14:21-24]. Jesus, and His Apostles, never taught or said that any person can change any part of God's Word, and that God would still accept the changes as if they were His own words. If you find this message hard to accept, don't shoot the messenger. Rather, take the message and STUDY it in the Bible's context - not something that is different from God's Word. We at Toms River Church of Christ are willing to STUDY the things above, or other Bible subjects, at times of mutual convenience.
